I have used a wide range of sources for this project, including numerous books and websites. However, much of the information came from two authoritative books:

– The Register of the Victoria Cross, This England, Cheltenham (Gloucestershire), 1997.

– David Harvey, Monuments to Courage: Victoria Cross Headstones and Memorials, The Naval and Military Press Ltd, Uckfield (East Sussex), 2008.

I would thoroughly recommend these two publications to anyone wanting to find out basic details about other Victoria Crosses (VCs) not in my collection.

I am also grateful to those who researched the lives of individual VC recipients for various auction catalogue write-ups. Some of their information is also included on this website.

Those wanting to read more about the VCs in my collection may wish to buy my book Victoria Cross Heroes (which has write-ups on all the VCs that I had purchased up until 2006). For more information, see the section on this website about my gallantry books or go to www.victoriacrossheroes.com .

On this website, the section in each of the individual entries headed “Other decorations” only includes British and Commonwealth orders and gallantry medals. Awards made by other, usually allied, countries to British and Commonwealth servicemen are not listed.

Every effort has been made to make the information in the individual entries accurate. However, given a project of this magnitude, there will inevitably be some minor errors. Please use the “Contact” section on this website if you wish to highlight a mistake, and so it can be corrected.
